Ingredient Notes + Substitutions
Only three ingredients are needed to make this mixed frozen fruit smoothie.

Frozen Fruit Blend
For a creamy smoothie, always include banana, mango, or avocado in the mix. If the fruit blend does not include one of these, add ยผ of a medium avocado or replace some of the fruit with frozen mango or banana. The more mango or banana, the thicker and creamier the smoothie will be.
Yogurt
I recommend a thick yogurt, if possible, so the smoothie stays extra creamy. Greek yogurt or a thick coconut yogurt (I used Harmless Harvest brand) are good options.
Milk
Regular dairy milk or a plant-based milk like unsweetened almond milk or oat milk will all work well in this versatile smoothie recipe. I used unsweetened almond milk.
Optional Add Ins
Here are some additional nutrition boosters I like to add to this smoothie:
- 1 tablespoon almond butter or other nut and seed butter
- 2 tablespoons hemp heart seeds
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- a handful of spinach
You can also replace ยผ cup of milk with orange juice or apple juice for extra sweetness, or coconut water for electrolytes.
Step-by-step Instructions

That's it! But check out my expert tips below to make the best mixed berry smoothie on the first try.

Expert Tips
Make the best mixed frozen fruit smoothie with these expert tips.
Add liquids to the blender first.
Always add the liquid ingredients to the blender first. Then add ingredients with increasing thickness/hardness. Adding ingredients in this order makes it less likely that your blender will get stuck or trap air bubbles, causing it to stall.
That means milk, water, juice, and coconut water are first. Then yogurt or nut butters. Followed by seeds, nuts, fruit and frozen fruit.
Adjust the consistency.
Looking for a thick smoothie bowl or a thin smoothie you can drink with a standard straw? Add less liquid at first for a thicker smoothie, and more liquid to thin. You can't over-blend, so start with less, give your blender a blitz, then add more to your preference.
Recipe FAQs
Here I answered some frequently asked questions about this Mixed Frozen Fruit Smoothie. Don't see your question? Leave it in the comments at the end of this post and I'll answer within two business days.
Store leftover mixed frozen fruit smoothie in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Sometimes I like to make several at a time for meal prep purposes and seal individual portions in jars with airtight lids. Stir or shake any leftover smoothie before enjoying, since separation can occur.
Per the storage instructions above, I only recommend making them a couple days in advance. The texture is a little thinner after the first day when the frozen fruit pieces have fully thawed, but they are still very good. I prefer them freshly blended when I have time, but I do enjoy them leftover when I need to meal prep ahead of time.
