Once the Fall sports and Football season rolls around, I find that I'm making this homemade ranch seasoning recipe all the time! Ranch seasoning is a key part of buffalo flavored game day snacks and also a family favorite seasoning in general.
This recipe is a key component of my Crispy Buffalo Chickpeas and my Dairy-Free Buffalo Chicken (or cauliflower) Dip.
We also love to sprinkle it on Homemade Circle Fries and a variety of other snacks like popcorn and baked potatoes.

Ingredient Notes + Substitutions
This homemade ranch seasoning without buttermilk recipe needs just six simple ingredients.

What is a substitute for buttermilk powder in ranch seasoning mix?
The best buttermilk substitute in ranch seasoning mix is nutritional yeast or coconut milk powder. Nutritional yeast has a dairy-like flavor and also packs B vitamins, protein, and fiber into dairy-free recipes and is my substitute of choice.
Note that it is not a 1:1 substitute, so I recommend making the recipe according to my ratio and instructions and altering it to fit your taste afterwards.
This recipe uses just these six simple spices for the best easy homemade ranch seasoning without buttermilk:
- dried dill weed
- dried parsley
- nutritional yeast
- salt
- garlic powder
- black pepper
This recipe is naturally vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free and paleo. However, I recommend always checking spices for additives. All McCormick's pure spices (single spices, not blends) are gluten-free.
Make your own perfect variation
Some ranch seasonings also include onion powder and dried chives, however we thought they weren't necessary for that classic ranch flavor. Feel free to try a variation with more or less spices to find your perfect flavor!
Did you know that 80% of our sense of taste actually comes from our sense of smell? Therefore, if it smells good, it's likely it will taste good too!
Use your sense of smell to test any additional spices by sniffing your ranch mix beside a new spice. Or add a spice you already included to see if you might like even more of that spice!
